Emirates Islamic expands digital payment capabilities; offers Samsung Pay to customers

November 29, 2017

Emirates Islamic, one of the leading Islamic financial institutions in the UAE, today announced that its customers can now use Samsung Pay as the bank expands its digital payments offering.

Samsung Pay is a simple, secure and convenient mobile payment service that can be used to make contactless purchases with select Samsung mobile devices* almost anywhere a card is accepted. Emirates Islamic customers can access Samsung Pay by registering their cards into the app to make payments with Samsung eligible devices*.

Emirates Islamic has gained in reputation for offering its customers a modern, Shari’a compliant banking experience with innovative digitalised banking solutions to simplify their lives. As consumers in the UAE increasingly adapt to convenient cashless payment solutions, Emirates Islamic’s partnership with Samsung Pay will enable its cardholders to make simple, safe and secure payments straight from their mobile devices.

“We are delighted to offer our customers yet another convenient payment method,” said Wasim Saifi, Deputy CEO - Consumer Banking and Wealth Management, Emirates Islamic. “Digital payments are a key component of the UAE government’s drive towards a smart economy and as the leading Islamic bank, we are delighted to strengthen our mobile payment capabilities. Our customers will be delighted with the ease and convenience of making instant purchases with their Samsung mobile devices.”

“Our drive towards innovative banking and payment solutions that enhance customers’ lives is a key component of our growth strategy as we remain committed to supporting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai’s vision to make Dubai the global capital of Islamic Economy,” continued Saifi.

“We are very pleased to have partnered with Emirates Islamic to offer customers a simple, secure and available almost anywhere mobile payment experience. Our mission is to accelerate a digital payment experience that consumers have come to expect with Emirates Islamic and to reach a world without wallets, which continues to draw ever closer by expanding our robust roster of UAE partners,” said Mohammad Gharaibeh, Head of Enterprise, and Mobile Business at Samsung Gulf Electronics.

Samsung Pay is highly secure as it uses digital tokens in place of the actual card number to prevent fraud. It is easy to use, and the payment is completed with just a swipe up of the home screen, authentication using iris scanning, fingerprint or PIN number, and placing the phone over the terminal.

Unlike other mobile payment systems that rely on contactless terminal infrastructure, Samsung Pay works on both NFC (Near Field Communication) and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) terminals, which make it easy to use at any store where cards are accepted. Samsung compatible devices currently include the Samsung Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S8, S8+, Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy A3 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2017 and 2016), Galaxy A7 (2017 and 2016) and Samsung Gear S3.
