Emirates Islamic advises immediate vigilance against QR code fraud. A single scan of a compromised code can redirect you to a fraudulent site designed to harvest your card details, online banking passwords and One-Time Passcodes (OTPs).
Physical Tampering: A QR code sticker placed over another code - check for misalignment, peeling edges or different surface texture.
Urgent Language: Messages creating pressure, such as 'Scan Now to Redeem', 'Limited Time Offer' or 'Verify Your Account Immediately'.
Illegitimate Requests: Any website originating from a QR code that asks for your OTP, PIN, CVV or online banking password.
Physical Tampering: Poor design, spelling errors or a web address (URL) that does not match the official organisation's domain.
