Beware of Push Notification Scams

Push approval scams explained

As banks shift from SMS OTPs to in-app push notifications for transaction approvals, scammers are taking advantage of this change. Fraudsters are sending fake "urgent" emails or SMS claiming you need to activate push approvals or re-verify your account, with the aim of stealing your details or tricking you into approving a transaction you didn’t make.

If you see any of the below, treat it as suspicious:

• Emails or messages that look official but come from unfamiliar or unrelated senders.
• Urgent language creating fear, such as account restrictions or penalties.
• Links or buttons like "Activate Now" or "Approve Payment."
• Generic greetings instead of your name.
• Requests for login details, OTPs, or card information.

Do

• Only approve push notifications for transactions you initiated
• Open the EI + Mobile Banking App directly to verify any action— do not use links from messages.
• Verify suspicious messages using official channels (bank website/app/contact center numbers you trust).

Don't

• Don't click activation/approval links from emails or SMS.
• Don't enter your banking credentials, card details, PIN, or OTP on pages opened from a message link.
• Don't approve unexpected push notifications

• Stop and close the page—do not proceed.
• Freeze or block your card immediately (via the EI + App / Online Banking).
• Change your passwords (starting with email, then banking credentials if applicable).
• Contact Emirates Islamic immediately via official channels to secure your account.
